DAY 2- Thursday November 20, 2008                         MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY

Montevideo lies on the east bank of the Rio de La Plata, almost directly opposite Buenos Aires on the west bank.  Home to almost 50% of the nation's population, Montevideo is a modern metropolis with a historical old town dating back to colonial times. Surrounding the entire city lies an uninterrupted stretch of white sandy beach.

Highlights of the city include Ciudad Vieja (Old Town) with its 18th century buildings, the vibrant Mercado del Puerto (Port Market), and the bustling commercial activity of Avenida 18 de Julio and its numerous cultural offerings (theatres, museums and art galleries).
Many additional points of interest are located beyond downtown, a result of Montevideo’s growth along the river.

To the east, The Rambla, or waterfront road, leads past attractive residential suburbs with numerous public parks, including Plaza Gomenzoro which you will be painting at.
After breakfast, Alvaro will lead the group with his first painting demonstration in this wonderful park square complete with water views.
Lunch will be at your leisure.

Valuable critique sessions will be held every few days.

DAY 3- Friday November 21, 2008                                         MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY

Your creativity will be inspired by the natural landscape together with the cordiality and kindness of Uruguayan country folks.
We will continue sketching and sightseeing and then travel back to Colonia in the late afternoon.

A visit to Colonia del Sacramento is like a walk back in time. Founded in 1680 by the Portuguese, this old colonial town is renowned for its cobbled streets, colorful houses, excellent restaurants, art and craft shops, museums and a large yacht harbor. UNESCO named it a heritage historic district in 1995.
